Krafton also sued Apple and Google for making money by distributing it

The developer of PUBG Krafton has filed a complaint against Garena who is the developer of Free Fire.

The lawsuit accuses Free Fire’s developer to have copied PUBG: Battlegrounds.

Furthermore, Krafton is also suing Google and Apple for the distribution of those games through their apps stores.

It is reported that the PUBG developer has claimed Google for hosting YouTube videos that feature Free Fire gameplay.

The developer has also accused Google to host “numerous posts containing a feature-length Chinese film that is nothing more than a blatantly infringing live-action dramatization of Battlegrounds.”

PUBG Developer Vs Free Fire

“Free Fire and Free Fire Max extensively copy numerous aspects of Battlegrounds, both individually and in combination, including Battlegrounds’ copyrighted unique game-opening “airdrop” feature, the game structure and play, the combination and selection of weapons, armor, and unique objects, locations, and the overall choice of color schemes, materials, and textures.”

Krafton

Krafton has stated that Garena has made several hundred million dollars through the sales of its applications.

Apple along with Google is said to have “similarly earned a substantial amount of revenue from their distribution of Free Fire.

The PUBG developer had previously requested Garena to stop immediately its use of the game however Garena evidently declined.

Krafton requested Apple as well as Google to cease distributing games on their respective app stores.

PUBG Movie

Krafton also contacted YouTube to block videos featuring Free Fire gameplay and the infringing feature-length film.

All requests made by Krafton were rejected at present.

PUBG is not the sole owner of any rights to the Battle Royale genre?

It’s not the first time that the PUBG developer has attempted something similar to this.

A couple of years ago, Krafton sued Epic Games because of the similarity between Fortnite and PUBG. Krafton ended the suit in the year 2018 after the fight was settled in the draw.

It’s evident fact that PUBG is the very first battle royale game however, it does not own the game mode.

This is somewhat ironic, considering that PUBG was influenced by the Japanese film Battle Royale. Since then, many games have embraced this game-playing mode.
